Fishing: January Steelhead Fishing Info. On The Wilson River, Oregon
January 2013 Fishing Tips
Wilson River: I bought my fishing license and tags plus a 20 pound line. I'm a novice and am told by an experienced fisherman that this weight of line is easier to pull out of brush so there is less gear lost. Losing gear gets very expensive! At Bimart, another fisherman tipped me that a 12 pound line works very well for him to catch steelhead.
January 5: My gear is all packed and my dog (Little Bear) is happy since he gets to go too! I met a couple of nice people fishing who showed me hook sizes. I'm on the look out for clipped fin steelhead running through the water. They shared fifty places to go fishing within sixty miles of Portland. Note: Release wild and take hatchery fish to keep native stock replenishing itself.
January7: An experienced fisherman told me to find the biggest rock in the creek and cast upstream. As the line drifts down in front of the rock, watch for the fish to strike. He also told me that the best time for him to catch fish is when it rains.

Fishing: Steelhead Fishing Interview, on The Wilson River, Oregon
It was a nice day driving the road along the Wilson River. Lots of trucks and cars were parked along the best fishing holes. So I took a walk on one of the many trails down to the water. 3 people packed up and left. I have a feeling that they didn't have a proper fishing license yet.
