Shearing Day: The Rams of Bide-a-wee Farm

Beautiful, sunny and dry day at the Farm.

This is how we started.

 This year is with a new Sheep Shearer, Eddie retired due to back going out on him so the stories go.  Time to bring on the Boys.

Not even four horns gets away from this barber.

This is how we ended.

It wasn't that bad for these young sheep. They all made it into the trailer with their coats off.

This is the new blood line ram for some of the Spring lambs.

Sheep Shearing Day: Corriedate plus Fleece

Football moves that the camera missed...I got slammed, head shot with ewe head butted in my right cheek, knocking me over tea-kettle hard on the mud covered ground.  The balled up fleece I was holding went flying up and out of my arms, fumbling behind me.  Fiber and I recovered to finish and complete the day finishing in a total of a couple of hours.

Rachael H. is helping within the shearing day production of the fleece removing line-up.  This is her first time holding onto a sheep, and feeling the difference in watching her mom holding onto an animal that wants to go another direction, the whole hold time, to holding on herself.  Mom has more practice on how to hold, wait with the sheep, and shows like the sheep is with the same program idea.  Holding sheep is a good workout.

Amity, Oregon 2014 Visit at Wings and a Prayer Alpacas: Shearing Alpaca

 Checking out the fiber and locks of The White alpaca fleece.  China Doll is her name.

Next, Take a photo.  (We humans are not like monkeys)

 

  Nope, not going for it. Not going to cooperate, going to settle in right here.  China Doll takes her moment.

Three as a team, One to stand up and hold her neck, Two to shear evenly and Three to skirt into the holding basket.  It was a joy to witness the professionalism of people working together with China Doll, the beautiful White alpaca.

The side fleece flowed off China Doll with the skilled shearers clippers, and the shimmer and shine of her fiber growth, falls like a waterfall.

After buzzing the sides, the alpaca is grabbed firmly by the tail, and Randy smoothing out the animal as the rest of this story is pictured in the camera's frame.  Visitors come to watch and learn by seeing for themselves, smelling the green of the valley of this country life.

Nope done my acting bit, Just holding out, to hold out.
